The maintenance of sea and river defence structures is vital to the survival
of Guyana as 90 percent of its population and economic activity are situated
in the Low Coastal Region which is protected by these structures. These
projects are part of Government’s continuing investments to improve the
country’s defence against the sea particularly in light of climate change
which has resulted in a rise in sea level and other unusual weather
conditions. (GINA) |
